Announcement from MCEA, SEIU Local 500, NCAAP
Tuesday, April 5 in Rockville, SEIU Local 500, MCEA, and MCAAP members along with parents and students will be rallying against budget cuts to schools in Montgomery County. MCPS is an incredibly successful school system (consistently rated among the best in the nation) with unions and tenure and without a single charter school. We’re not “waiting for superman” here. But all that we’ve built is threatened by budget cuts.

I'm not sure the arguments in favor of charter schools are that they would be better than the absolute best public schools in the nation -- only that they would be better, on average, while also being cheaper for the state.
I can understand unions wanting to protect their own (that's their point and purpose) but not at the expense of the people they are supposed to be serving through education.
Providing options and encouraging a little competition here and there should be a no brainer. The only reason it's not in education is because the unions have grown too powerful, especially in MD where many retired teachers and administrators get into politics.
It is interesting that you guys choose only to approve my comments that support your agenda and not the ones that challenge it.
Really shows a lot of integrity.
